India Research Corps (IRC) is a platform for government agencies, civil society organisations, and nonprofits in India to get rigorous, actionable answers to the questions that shape their work. Organisations are invited to submit questions, scientific or social in nature, that are rooted in the realities of their work and demand a clear, evidence-based answer.

What is a Good Question?

A good question is one where the answer will result in action: shaping policy, informing programme design, or changing local practice. Questions asked purely out of curiosity, or whose answers would be nice to know but not acted on, are not a fit for this programme.

A research question must be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timebound. IRC aims to turn around every question within a one-year window, covering the time needed to match a scholar, review existing literature, develop a methodology, conduct field research, and deliver findings.

Selection Process

Step 1
Submit and Qualify
Submit a question through the form on the website, and we will review it to ensure that it meets the programme’s criteria.

Step 2
Refine the ‘So What?’
IRC works with you to establish what will change once the research is complete, ensuring clarity of purpose from the outset. The final question will be published on the IRC website.

Step 3
Match With a Scholar
IRC will match each question to a Scholar whose skills and experience align with the demands of the research.

Step 4
Support Field Research
A matched Scholar documents the methodology in an inception report and conducts the research. IRC covers field expenses but help from clients with community engagement is always welcome!

Step 5
Review and Present
Throughout the research, the IRC team reviews the Scholar’s work to ensure it remains rigorous, focused, and aligned with the client’s needs. At the end, the Scholar presents findings directly to the client and hands over the work.
